A BILL 
 
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED 
 
"An Act relating to commercial motor vehicle drivers' license requirements; and 1 
providing for an effective date." 2 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 3 
   * Section 1. AS 28.33.100(a) is amended to read: 4 
(a) A person may not drive a commercial motor vehicle until the person 5 
applies for and is issued a license for that purpose under AS 28.15.041. The 6 
department may not issue a license to drive a commercial motor vehicle unless the 7 
applicant  8 
(1)  is at least 18 years of age, to operate in intrastate commerce, or at 9 
least 21 years of age, to operate in interstate commerce, except as provided in (f) of 10 
this section;  11 
(2)  [HAS HELD A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AT LEAST ONE 12 
YEAR BEFORE THE DATE OF APPLI CATION OR MEETS THE EXPERIENCE 13 
QUALIFICATIONS ESTABLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT;  14    33-LS0721\A

(3)]  has successfully completed all required driving tests and written 1 
and physical examinations;  2 
(3) [(4)] either does not have a driver's license issued by another 3 
jurisdiction or surrenders all driver's licenses issued by other jurisdictions; and  4 
(4) [(5)]  is domiciled in this state.  5 
   * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect January 20, 2024. 6
