A BILL 
 
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED 
 
"An Act petitioning the United States Department of Transportation to change the time 1 
zones of Alaska; exempting the state from daylight saving time; and providing for an 2 
effective date." 3 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 4 
   * Section 1. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to read: 5 
Article 5. Standard Time. 6 
Sec. 44.12.400. Exemption from daylight saving time. The state exempts 7 
itself from observation of advanced time, also known as daylight saving time, during 8 
the period set under 15 U.S.C. 260a for the advancement of time each calendar year, 9 
and the entire state shall observe the standard time that is otherwise applicable during 10 
that period. 11 
   * Sec. 2. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 12

TO CHANGE THE TIME ZONE IN WHICH ALASKA IS LOCATED. The legisla ture, by 1 
this Act, petitions the United States Department of Transportation to initiate proceedings 2 
under the Uniform Time Act of 1966 to place all of the state within the Pacific Standard Time 3 
zone as provided in the United States Department of Transportation's "Procedure for Moving 4 
an Area from One Time Zone to Another."  5 
   * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 6 
read: 7 
CONDITIONAL EFFECT OF SECTION 1 OF THIS ACT. Section 1 of this Act takes 8 
effect only if the United States Department of Transportation places all of the state within the 9 
Pacific Standard Time zone on or before January 1, 2035. 10 
   * Sec. 4. Section 2 of this Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c). 11 
   * Sec. 5. If sec. 1 of this Act takes effect, it takes effect on the effective date of the 12 
placement of all of the state within the Pacific Standard Time zone. 13
