11	AN ACT

13	Relating to Mobile County; abolishing the Office of
14 the Mobile County Treasurer upon the expiration of the current
15 term of office or upon a vacancy occurring in the office for
16 any reason; and providing for the county commission to perform
17 all acts, duties, and functions required by law to be
18 performed by the county treasurer.
19 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
20	Section 1. Upon the expiration of the current term
21 of the Office of the Mobile County Treasurer, or if a vacancy
22 occurs for any reason in the office prior to the expiration of
23 the current term of office, the Office of the Mobile County
24 Treasurer is abolished.
25	Section 2. Upon the abolition of the Office of
26 Mobile County Treasurer, the Mobile County Commission shall
27 perform all acts, duties, and functions required by law to be
Page 1 1 performed by the treasurer. All records, assets, and property
2 held in the name of the county treasurer shall be transferred
3 to the Mobile County Commission and all merit employees of the
4 Mobile County Treasurer shall become employees of the Mobile
5 County Commission.
6	Section 3. All county depositories appointed as of
7 the date of abolition of the Office of Mobile County Treasurer
8 shall continue to serve as county depositories until such time
9 as the Mobile County Commission, by resolution, shall remove
10 any depository.
11	Section 4. It is the purpose of this act to preserve
12 revenue and promote public convenience in Mobile County by
13 abolishing the Office of Mobile County Treasurer and
14 consolidating the functions of the office into the existing
15 offices of the Mobile County Commission.
16	Section 5. Upon the abolition of the Office of
17 Mobile County Treasurer, the Mobile County Commission shall
18 commission an audit of the accounts of the Mobile County
19 Treasurer. The Mobile County Commission shall not assume any
20 liability for errors or omissions attributable to the acts or
21 omissions of the Mobile County Treasurer.
22	Section 6. Upon the abolishment of the Office of
23 Mobile County Treasurer, all laws or parts of laws which
24 conflict with this act are repealed.
25	Section 7. This act shall become effective
26 immediately following its passage and approval by the
27 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
