11	AN ACT

13	Relating to Madison County; to further provide for
14 the compensation of the Coroner of Madison County beginning in
15 the next term of office commencing in January 2023; and to
16 repeal Section 45-45-60 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
17 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
18	Section 1. (a) Effective beginning the next term of
19 office of the coroner in January 2023, the Coroner of Madison
20 County shall receive an annual salary of fifty thousand
21 dollars ($50,000). The salary shall be paid from the general
22 fund of the county and shall be paid in the same manner as
23 county employees are paid. In addition, the coroner shall be
24 entitled to participate in the county health insurance plan
25 and receive any other benefits to the same extent, under the
26 same conditions, in the same manner as county employees and
27 the coroner shall be entitled to receive uniform increases in
Page 1 1 compensation, such as cost-of-living raises, in the same
2 amount as uniform increases in compensation granted equally to
3 county employees by the county commission.
4	(b) The salary and benefits provided in subsection
5 (a) shall be the total compensation of the coroner and shall
6 be in lieu of any other compensation or fees, including any
7 compensation provided in subdivision (1) of Section 45-45-11,
8 Code of Alabama 1975, except for actual and verified expenses
9 as provided in subsection (c).
10	(c) In addition to the compensation provided in
11 subsection (a), the coroner shall be entitled to be reimbursed
12 for actual and verified expenses incurred for the operation of
13 the office of coroner and other expenses in the performance of
14 the duties of the office, not to exceed fifteen thousand
15 dollars ($15,000) per year.
16	Section 2. Effective at the expiration of the term
17 of the coroner serving on the effective date of this act,
18 Section 45-45-60 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the
19 compensation of the coroner, is repealed.
20	Section 3. This act shall become effective on the
21 first day of the third month following its passage and
22 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
