2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3	Relating to Madison County; to further provide for
4 the compensation of the Coroner of Madison County beginning in
5 the next term of office commencing in January 2023; and to
6 repeal Section 45-45-60 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
8	Section 1. (a) Effective beginning the next term of
9 office of the coroner in January 2023, the Coroner of Madison
10 County shall receive an annual salary of fifty thousand
11 dollars ($50,000). The salary shall be paid from the general
12 fund of the county and shall be paid in the same manner as
13 county employees are paid. In addition, the coroner shall be
14 entitled to participate in the county health insurance plan
15 and receive any other benefits to the same extent, under the
16 same conditions, in the same manner as county employees and
17 the coroner shall be entitled to receive uniform increases in
18 compensation, such as cost-of-living raises, in the same
19 amount as uniform increases in compensation granted equally to
20 county employees by the county commission.
21	(b) The salary and benefits provided in subsection
22 (a) shall be the total compensation of the coroner and shall
23 be in lieu of any other compensation or fees, including any
24 compensation provided in subdivision (1) of Section 45-45-11,

1 Code of Alabama 1975, except for actual and verified expenses
2 as provided in subsection (c).
3	(c) In addition to the compensation provided in
4 subsection (a), the coroner shall be entitled to be reimbursed
5 for actual and verified expenses incurred for the operation of
6 the office of coroner and other expenses in the performance of
7 the duties of the office, not to exceed fifteen thousand
8 dollars ($15,000) per year.
9	Section 2. Effective at the expiration of the term
10 of the coroner serving on the effective date of this act,
11 Section 45-45-60 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the
12 compensation of the coroner, is repealed.
13	Section 3. This act shall become effective on the
14 first day of the third month following its passage and
15 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
