8 COMMENDING EVAN MCPHERSON FOR OUTSTANDING
9 PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT.

11 WHEREAS, it gives us great pride and special
12 pleasure to commend Evan McPherson for his dedication and
13 accomplishments as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals Football
14 Team; and
15 WHEREAS, McPherson, a native of Fort Payne, Alabama,
16 is the son of Amber and LaDon McPherson; he is a 2018 graduate
17 of Fort Payne High School, where he played four seasons as the
18 kicker and punter of the Fort Payne Wildcats; and
19 WHEREAS, from 2018 to 2020, Mr. McPherson played for
20 the University of Florida; as a Florida Gator, McPherson
21 earned 302 career points; he had 136 touchbacks on 241 career
22 kickoffs; McPherson played in 37 games during his three
23 seasons and he led the Southeastern Conference with a career
24 field goal percentage of 85.0; and
25 WHEREAS, McPherson was drafted by the Cincinnati
26 Bengals in the fifth round of the 2021 National Football
Page 1 1 League Draft; he signed a four-year rookie contract on May 17,
2 2021; and
3 WHEREAS, for the first time in 33 years, the
4 Cincinnati Bengals played in a Superbowl, Super Bowl LVI
5 against the Los Angeles Rams on February 13, 2022, thanks in
6 large part to McPherson's phenomenal skills; McPherson went
7 14-for-14 in post season kicks, including two tries he made at
8 the Super Bowl LVI; and
9 WHEREAS, his performance, as well as his excellent
10 character during the 2022 Superbowl, was lauded by media
11 outlets across the United States; McPherson's outstanding play
12 earned him nationwide respect and put his hometown of Fort
13 Payne, Alabama, in the spotlight; and
14 WHEREAS, it was a tremendous honor to witness one of
15 DeKalb County's very own hometown football stars achieve this
16 level of success; McPherson is truly a shinning example to all
17 young athletes; now therefore,
18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
19 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Evan McPherson is honored and
20 commended, and this resolution is offered to him in highest
21 tribute and heartiest congratulations as well as with sincere
22 best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
