1 HR202 2 219188-1 3 By Representative Mooney 4 RFD: Rules 5 First Read: 29-MAR-22 Page 0 1 219188-1:n:03/17/2022:AR/ar LSA2022-1023 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH AS SKIN CANCER 9 AWARENESS MONTH. 10 11 WHEREAS, according to the American Academy of 12 Dermatology, 3 million American citizens are diagnosed with 13 skin cancer each year; and 14 WHEREAS, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 15 skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and 16 worldwide; and 17 WHEREAS, the Melanoma Research Foundation reports 18 that Melanoma diagnoses are increasing at epidemic rates and 19 predicted that in 2021 over 207,000 Americans will be 20 diagnosed with the deadliest form of skin cancer; and 21 WHEREAS, melanoma is not just a cancer of the skin, 22 but can develop anywhere on the body, and it does not 23 discriminate by age, race, or gender; and 24 WHEREAS, melanoma and other skin cancers are thought 25 to be 90 percent caused by exposure to ultraviolet light and 26 sunlight; just one blistering sunburn at a young age can 27 double the chances of developing melanoma later in life; and Page 1 1 WHEREAS, awareness, education, early detection, and 2 prevention of skin cancer can save lives; now therefore, 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF 4 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we recognize the month of 5 March 2022 as Skin Cancer Awareness Month in the State of 6 Alabama.
