House Bill 144 as introduced establishes a certification and testing process for foreign language
interpreters administered by the Administrative Office of Courts (AOC). According to AOC, the
one-time cost for testing is $940; the one-time certification fee for Spanish is $385 and other
languages is $690. AOC estimates that four Spanish interpreters will be certified, which would
increase receipts to the State Judicial Administration Fund by an estimated $5,300.
