HJR___ COMMENDING THE BIRMINGHAM ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
FOR THE SUCCESSFUL FAIR HOUSING MONTH 55TH ANNIVERSARY
PROCLAMATION TOUR.
WHEREAS, the Birmingham Association of REALTORS® is
the premier resource for real estate information in
Birmingham and Central Alabama, serving as the "Voice of
Real Estate" since 1911, issuing statistical analysis or
market conditions and offering legislative support to its
more than 5,000 members and the industry at large; and
WHEREAS, April 11, 2023, marked the 55th Anniversary
of the signing of the Fair Housing Act by President Lyndon
B. Johnson, and REALTORS® around the country were called
upon to celebrate Fair Housing Month; and
WHEREAS, the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®, and
its membership of over 5,000 REALTORS®, share the belief of
the National Association of REALTORS® that no person of this
country should have their right to rent or purchase the
shelter of their choice abridged because of race, color,
religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin,
sexual orientation, or gender identity; and
WHEREAS, the jurisdiction of the Birmingham

Association of REALTORS® encompasses all of Blount, Clay,
Chilton, Jefferson, Randolph, and Shelby Counties; and
WHEREAS, the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®
launched a campaign to have 55 governmental units declare
April as Fair Housing Month and commemorate the 55th
Anniversary of the passage of this landmark Act; and
WHEREAS, the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®
received proclamations from the County Commissions of
Blount, Clay, Chilton, Jefferson, Randolph, and Shelby
Counties; and
WHEREAS, the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®
received proclamations from 49 individual municipalities;
and
WHEREAS, the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®
successfully executed the largest Fair Housing Celebration
in the State of Alabama; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the Birmingham Association
of REALTORS® is hereby commended for accomplishing such a
monumental task and continuing to be one of the strongest
voices in support of fair and attainable housing in the
State of Alabama.
