WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, we recognize and highly honor the 2023 Navy SEAL Foundation New York City SEAL Swim; and WHEREAS, the 2023 Navy SEAL Foundation New York City SEAL Swim will take place on August 19, 2023, and is a multi-sport, open-water swimming event held in New York City, New York, that brings together former SEALs, Veterans, Police Officers, Firefighters, and First Responders from across the country to help raise funds for its organization that supports NAVY Seals and their families; and WHEREAS, the event will start at the Empty Sky Memorial in Liberty State Park in New Jersey and will end at the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York; participants will enter the Hudson River at Liberty State Park, New Jersey, and swim to the Statue of Liberty, where they will do 100 honor push-ups and 22 pull-ups for their nation’s freedoms and civil liberties; the participants will then swim from the Statue of Liberty to Ellis Island, where they will do 100 honor push-ups and 22 pull-ups for their nation’s diversity and all those who came to the nation seeking a better life; participants will then swim across the Hudson River to Battery Park, Manhattan, New York, where 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HJR234 INTRODUCEDHJR234 INTRODUCED Page 2 they will grab American Flags and run to the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York; at the World Trade Center, participants will do 100 honor push-ups and 22 pull-ups to honor all those who lost their lives on 9/11, Extortion 17, and all Americans who put their lives on the line for their nation; and WHEREAS, dedicated Navy Seal and proud Alabamian, Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Richard Clifford, will participate in the 2023 Navy SEAL Foundation New York City SEAL Swim; LCDR Clifford joined the military in 1986 (BUDs class 142); during his 31 years of active duty, he served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan; for his service in Afghanistan, he received a Bronze Star and two Combat Action Ribbons; he enlisted to Officer and retired in 2017 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we recognize and highly honor the 2023 Navy SEAL Foundation New York City SEAL Swim, and we hereby dedicate this resolution to the remarkable event with utmost appreciation, admiration, and regard. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48
