Senate Bill 144 as introduced would increase the obligations of the Administrative Office of
Courts (AOC), funded by the State General Fund, by an estimated $3.1 million for fiscal year
2025 and an estimated minimum of $4.1 million each fiscal year thereafter, to create 6
additional circuit judgeships ( one each in the 6th, 11th, 19th, 23rd, 28th, and 37th Judicial
Circuits) and 4 additional district judgeships (one each in Baldwin, DeKalb, Mobile and Shelby
Counties).
In addition, this bill would further increase the obligations of AOC, funded by the State General
Fund, by an estimated $939,000 for fiscal year 2027 and an estimated minimum of $1.3 million
each fiscal year thereafter to create 2 additional circuit judgeships (one each in the 19th and 28th
Judicial Circuits) and one additional district judgeship (Madison County).
