SYNOPSIS:
This bill would allow a Department of
Corrections law enforcement officer who is certified by
the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training
Commission, including K-9 handlers, to assist any law
enforcement agency with public safety.
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to the Department of Corrections; to allow a
Department of Corrections law enforcement officer to assist
any law enforcement agency with public safety.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. Any Department of Corrections officer
certified by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and
Training Commission, including a K-9 handler, may use a police
animal or search and rescue animal, as defined in Section
13A-11-260, Code of Alabama 1975, to assist any law
enforcement agency with public safety.
Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately
following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
otherwise becoming law.
