SB259INTRODUCED Page 0 G8BQCC-1 By Senator Jones (N & P) RFD: Local Legislation First Read: 27-Apr-23 2023 Regular Session 1 2 3 4 5 6 G8BQCC-1 03/16/2023 FC (L)ma 2023-595 Page 1 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT Relating to Cherokee County; to authorize the Cherokee County Commission to levy and provide for the collection of an additional vehicle license and registration fee on each vehicle license and registration, transfer, or renewal of any vehicle in the county; and to provide for distribution of the proceeds from the fees to the sheriff and the district attorney. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: Section 1.(a) The Cherokee County Commission may levy and provide for the collection of an additional vehicle license and registration issuance fee in the amount of three dollars and seventy-five cents ($3.75) on each new registration, transfer, or renewal on any vehicle in the county. The Revenue Commissioner of the county or other license issuing officials shall collect the issuance fee on each new registration, transfer, or renewal on a vehicle in the county. The fee shall be in addition to all other fees, taxes, and other charges provided for the license and registration of a vehicle. (b) The proceeds from the additional issuance fees upon 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 SB259 INTRODUCEDSB259 INTRODUCED Page 2 collection shall be distributed on a monthly basis by the Revenue Commissioner as follows: (1) One dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) shall be distributed to the District Attorney to be deposited in the solicitor's fund. The proceeds from the fees shall be used for law enforcement purposes and for the prosecution of crimes. (2) Two dollars and twenty-five cents ($2.25) shall be distributed to the sheriff of the county to be deposited in the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Fund. The proceeds from the fees shall be used for law enforcement purposes. (c) The proceeds from the fees and the use of the fees shall not diminish or take the place of any other source of funding of the District Attorney's office or sheriff's office in the county. Section 2.
