Senate Bill 290 as reported by the Committee on Fiscal Responsibility and Economic
Development increases the competitive bidding floor for public works contracts from $50,000,
under current law, to $100,000, as well as allowing for the solicitation and submission of sealed
bids. In addition, it authorizes those dollar amounts to be further increased based on increases in
Consumer Price Index. This bill could increase or decrease the purchase price of goods and
services procured for public work projects, depending on the difference in (1) the cost of
products procured under the provisions of this bill and (2) the cost otherwise obtained under
current law.
