Waggoner Analyst: Peter Grogan Date: 05/16/2023 Senate Bill 301 as introduced could increase receipts to the State General Fund by and undetermined amount dependent upon the number of individuals convicted of illegally using a wireless telecommunications device and the increase in the amount of the fines assessed, pursuant to the provisions of this bill, from $25, $50, and $75 for a first, second, and subsequent violation, respectively, under current law, to: (1) a $50 fine for a first conviction within a 24-month period; (2) a $100 fine for a second conviction within a 24-month period; and (3) a $150 fine for a third or subsequent violation within a 24-month period. In addition, this bill would prohibit the imposition of court costs associated solely with a violation under the provisions of this bill which could reduce receipts to the State General Fund, county general funds, municipal general funds, and other funds to which court costs are deposited.
