A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to Macon County; to provide for the salary of
the judge of probate; to ratify and confirm prior payments to
the judge of probate prior to the effective date of this act;
and to repeal Section 45-44-84 of the Code of Alabama 1975,
relating to Macon County and the salary of the judge of
probate. 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) Effective October 1, 2023, the salary of
the Judge of Probate of Macon County shall be eighty-nine
thousand dollars ($89,000) per year, payable in equal monthly
installments from the general fund of the county. The salary
provided by this act, shall be in lieu of any salary, expense
allowance, or other compensation previously provided by law
except the judge of probate shall continue to receive the
expense allowance provided to county officers pursuant to Act
2017-463 of the 2017 Regular Session, now appearing as Section
45-44-11.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
(b) Effective October 1, 2024, and thereafter, the
salary of the judge of probate shall be increased to include
the amount of any cost-of-living raises or other uniform

increases in compensation granted to all county employees.
(c) Any prior payments made to the Judge of Probate of
Macon County by Macon County beginning on January 15, 2019,
until discontinued by the county, which payments were
incorrectly paid through no fault of the judge of probate, are
ratified and confirmed.
Section 2. All laws or parts of laws which conflict
with this act are repealed. Section 45-44-84 of the Code of
Alabama 1975, relating to Macon County and the salary of the
judge of probate, is expressly repealed. 
Section 3. This act shall become effective immediately
following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
otherwise becoming law.
