Senate Bill 52as passed the Senate would expand the Alabama Safe at Schools Act to include
the training of certain school personnel to administrate medication to students with an adrenal
insufficiency no later than the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
The provisions of this bill would increase the administrative obligations of: (1) the State
Department of Education and the Alabama Board of Nursing to develop guidance for the
training of certain school personnel with regards to the medical needs of students with an
adrenal insufficiency; (2) all local boards of education for the additional training of school
nurses and unlicensed medication assistants; and (3) all public schools to provide personnel
trained in the care to students with an adrenal insufficiency for various school
activities.
