SJR___ COMMENDING JOHN AND ANN BOUTWELL FOR BEING AWARDED
THE INAUGURAL DANIEL PRATT INDUSTRIALIST AWARD.
WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations
are proudly presented to John and Ann Boutwell for being
awarded the inaugural 2023 Daniel Pratt Industrialist Award;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Prattville Industrial
Development Board established the Daniel Pratt Industrialist
Award to celebrate visionary business leaders, companies,
and organizations whose innovation and dedication have
helped build a strong and vibrant community in Prattville
and Autauga County; and
WHEREAS, in the early 1990s, John and Ann Boutwell
began their quest to preserve the rich history of Alabama's
first industrialist, Daniel Pratt; Mr. Pratt introduced the
Industrial Revolution to the South and had a tremendous
influence on the culture of our state; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, John and Ann Boutwell were
instrumental in the campaign to revitalize and save historic
downtown Prattville; they were the visionaries who
spearheaded plans for the 1999 Daniel Pratt Alabama Year of
Industry Celebration, which included exhibits, contests, and
concerts throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, today, there has been tremendous growth in

downtown Prattville, and particularly with the newest
development, The Mill Apartment Complex, with sweeping views
of the city's historic downtown, Autauga Creek, and the
picturesque millpond dam; and
WHEREAS, the 2023 Daniel Pratt Industrialist Award
was presented to John and Ann Boutwell because without their
perseverance, determination, and commitment to the
community, Mr. Pratt's vision would have been lost forever;
now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That John and Ann Boutwell are
honored and commended for winning the inaugural 2023 Daniel
Pratt Industrialist Award, and this resolution is offered to
them in deepest admiration and appreciation, along with
sincere best wishes for all future endeavors.
