House Bill 223 as introduced would increase the obligations of the State General Fund (SGF),
beginning in Fiscal Year 2025, by $148,550 for each state death benefit payment paid to a
surviving beneficiary or dependent of a state or municipal firefighter that dies as a result of a
work-related Parkinson's diagnosis, under certain conditions. This bill would further increase the
obligations of the SGF by an additional undetermined amount to provide injury compensation
for state firefighters diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
In addition, this bill could increase the obligations of certain municipalities by an undetermined
amount to provide disability coverage that includes Parkinson's disease as an occupational
disease.
