A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to Calhoun County; to amend Section 1 of Acts
1978, No. 117 (Acts 1978, p. 1832), and to replace Section
45-8-200.01, Code of Alabama 1975, as added by Acts 1965, No.
154 (Acts 1965, p. 218), which act was repealed by Acts 1978,
No. 117 (Acts 1978, p. 1832); and to further provide for the
compensation of the license commissioner.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. Section 1 of Acts 1978, No. 117 (Acts 1978,
p. 1832), is amended to read as follows:
"The license commissioner presently serving in Calhoun
County shall continue in that office until his successor is
elected, in the 1980 primary or general election, and assumes
office in January, 1981. (a) Commencing with the election of
the license commissioner in the 1980 election, the term of
office shall be for six years from January , 1981, and shall be
filled by the majority of the qualified electors voting
thereon at the primary or general election held , in 1980, for
county-wide offices which terms commence in 1981 , and every
six years thereafter.
(b) Notice of the election shall be given by the judge

(b) Notice of the election shall be given by the judge
of probate, which notice shall be published once a week for
three successive weeks before the day of the election.
(c) Candidates for the office shall qualify as other
candidates for county office.
(d) The judge of probate shall certify the results of
the election to the Secretary of State in the same manner as
is required for all local or general elections.
(e) Beginning with the new term of office in January
1981, and thereafter, the commissioner of license shall
receive an annual salary of twenty-two thousand five hundred
thousand dollars ($22,500). Such salary shall be paid from the
county treasury in the same manner as other county officers'
salaries are paid."
Section 2. (a) Effective July 1, 2024, the commissioner
of licenses shall receive an additional expense allowance
equal to 12.5 percent of the commissioner's salary on June 1,
2024, payable in equal monthly installments from the general
fund of the county. The expense allowance shall be in addition
to all other compensation, expense allowances, or benefits
granted to the commissioner.
(b) Beginning with the next term of office after July
1, 2024, the commissioner of licenses shall receive an annual
salary equal to 112.5 percent of the commissioner's salary on
June 1, 2024, and the expense allowance in subsection (a)
shall be void.
Section 3. This act shall become effective on June 1,
2024.
