This bill would define "expedited license." A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT Relating to licensure of physicians; to amend Section 34-24-50.1, Code of Alabama 1975, as last amended by Act 2023-233 of the 2023 Regular Session, to define "expedited license" for purposes of criminal background checks of applicants. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: Section 1. Section 34-24-50.1, Code of Alabama 1975, as last amended by Act 2023-233 of the 2023 Regular Session, is amended to read as follows: "ยง34-24-50.1 Unless otherwise indicated from the context, the terms set out below as used in Articles 3, 8, 9, and 10 of this chapter have the following meanings: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HB360 INTRODUCED Page 2 chapter have the following meanings: (1) BOARD. The State Board of Medical Examiners. (2) DOCTOR. Both doctors of medicine and doctors of osteopathy. (3) EXPEDITED LICENSE. A license to practice medicine, a certificate of qualification, a certification of eligibility for a license to practice medicine, or a certification of eligibility for a certificate of qualification that is issued in an accelerated manner. (3)(4) LEGEND DRUG. Any drug, medicine, chemical, or poison, bearing on the label the words, "Caution: Federal Law prohibits dispensing without a prescription" or similar words indicating that the drug, medicine, chemical, or poison may be sold or dispensed only upon the prescription of a licensed medical practitioner, except that the term legend drug shall not include any drug, substance, or compound that is listed in Schedules I through V of the Alabama Uniform Controlled Substances Act. (4)(5) LICENSED TO PRACTICE MEDICINE. Both the practice of medicine by a doctor of medicine or the practice of osteopathy by a doctor of osteopathy. (5)(6) PHYSICIAN.
