Senate Bill 77 as introduced would, effective June 1, 2024, restructure the composition of the
Alabama Department of Archives and History's Board of Trustees by: (1) including on the board
only the Governor and eight at-large members (a decrease of eight members); and (2) changing
the appointing authorities. This could decrease the obligations of the Department to reimburse
per diem and travel expenses of board members by an estimated $176 per member per board
meeting attended in person. However, according to the Department, historically board member
per diem and travel expenses have never been claimed.
