SYNOPSIS:
Under existing law, the Alabama Educational
Television Foundation Authority may not carry on
propaganda or otherwise attempt to influence
legislation.
This bill would authorize the authority to
engage in activity and use funds to secure additional
funding.
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to the Alabama Educational Television
Foundation Authority; to amend Section 16-7A-5, Code of
Alabama 1975; to authorize the Alabama Educational Television
Foundation Authority to use funds to secure additional
funding.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. Section 16-7A-5, Code of Alabama 1975, is
amended to read as follows:
"ยง16-7A-5
(a) The activities of the authority shall not include,
directly or indirectly, the carrying on of propaganda, or

directly or indirectly, the carrying on of propaganda, or
otherwise attempting to influence legislation or engaging in
political campaigns.
(b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), the authority may
use funds to engage in fundraising, solicit donations, and
otherwise secure additional funding for the authority,
provided that the use is in compliance with the Internal
Revenue Code and applicable federal regulations. "
Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
1, 2025.
