HJR___ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF LARRY
HORACE BARNETT.
WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
death of Larry Horace Barnett of Huntsville, Alabama, at the
age of 77; his departure leaves a void in the lives of his
loving family, many friends, and the community where he was
highly regarded; and 
WHEREAS, Larry Barnett was born the only child of
Robert Horace Barnett and Hazel Louise Painter Barnett in
Huntsville, on August 9, 1947; a graduate of Madison
Academy, he attended Free Hardeman University and then
Tennessee Technological University; a proud veteran, he
served in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam era; and 
WHEREAS, marrying Janice Tittsworth in 1968, he
wanted to remain in Huntsville and build his own retail
establishment; Larry's Pistol and Pawn was created in 1974
just after the birth of their only child, Robert Noel; no
stranger to hard work, as he had worked numerous jobs since
he was nine years old, he loved the business of pawnbroking
and retail sales; and
WHEREAS, Larry initially envisioned his business as a
combination trophy, pawn, and gun shop, but his distinctive
marketing approach led firearm sales to become the primary
focus; in 1990, he expanded his North Parkway location,

focus; in 1990, he expanded his North Parkway location,
adding a larger showroom and an indoor firing range; in
2015, he further grew the business with a second location
along Interstate 565 near the iconic "Big Rusty Water
Tower"; this location became home to his cherished
collection of unique firearms, proudly displayed in his
personal "museum"; and
WHEREAS, Larry Barnett served as a founding member of
the Huntsville Police Citizen's Foundation, actively
supporting the families of fallen officers and those injured
in the line of duty; during his service to the foundation,
the first Fallen Officer's Memorial was paid for by donors
and constructed at the Huntsville Police Department; Larry
also supported federal agencies, such as the Federal Bureau
of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives; and
WHEREAS, he was the recipient of the 2009 SHOT
Business Magazine Dealer of the Year, the most prestigious
award for a firearms dealer; he also received the first ever
Ruger Retailer of the Year, Taurus Firearms Retailer of the
Year, Federal Ammunition Dealer of the Year, and the
multi-time Retailer of the Year from Hornady Ammunition; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife of 56
years; son, Robert Noel Barnett; grandson, Nicholas Tyler
Barnett (Taylor); great-granddaughter, Sadie Jane; and one
great-grandson expected in late summer; and 
WHEREAS, Larry Barnett's life was a testament to
love, leadership, and service; he will be deeply missed, yet
his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched;

his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched;
now therefore, 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Larry Horace
Barnett is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution
is offered to his family in tribute to his life and with
heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones whose grief is shared
by many.
