HJR___ COMMENDING THE HONORABLE JUDGE MYRON CALVIN MILFORD,
JR. ON HIS CAREER AND SERVICE TO THE CITY OF LAFAYETTE AND
THE STATE OF ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, highest commendation is herein conveyed to
Myron Calvin Milford, Jr. in recognition of his exemplary
record of achievement and service to the City of LaFayette
and the State of Alabama during his distinguished
professional career in the legal and judicial fields, as
well as in his dedication to the development of his
hometown; and 
WHEREAS, Honorable Judge Myron Calvin Milford, Jr., a
lifelong resident of Chambers County and 1981 graduate of
Chambers Academy, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration from Auburn University in 1985, where he was
a member of Beta Gamma Sigma honor society; continuing his
education, he earned his Juris Doctor from The University of
Alabama in 1988 and was subsequently admitted to the Alabama
State Bar; and  
WHEREAS, Judge Milford served as Assistant District
Attorney in Randolph County from 1988-1990; in 1991, he
opened his own private practice in the City of LaFayette
where he practiced law for over 14 years, including serving
in the capacity of Municipal Attorney for LaFayette from
1996 until 2005; and

1996 until 2005; and
WHEREAS, Judge Milford was appointed to fill an
unexpired term as District Judge in Chambers County by
Governor Bob Riley on May 3, 2005; he then campaigned and
was elected to the position, serving three additional
six-year terms in 2006, 2012, and 2018; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Chambers County
District Judge, Judge Milford was instrumental in
implementing one of the first state-wide drug court
programs; the program, an accountability court which helps
people who have been arrested on drug charges, had an
impressive graduation rate of about 85 percent and a
recidivism rate of only around 10 percent; and
WHEREAS, he also helped institute a similar program
for a family drug court through the Department of Human
Resources to assist parents with drug charges regain custody
of their children; as a direct result of his efforts, many
Alabama residents have been motivated to fight addiction and
get their lives clean; and 
WHEREAS, in addition to his many professional
accomplishments, Judge Milford has personally impacted his
community by being an integral part of numerous initiatives,
including working with other county officials to get the
historic courthouse in LaFayette expanded and renovated;
advocating for the commission of the Joe Louis statue in
front of the courthouse; and serving on the Chambers County
Educational Foundation Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, he has also dedicated service to his county
and state by being an involved member of the LaFayette

and state by being an involved member of the LaFayette
Industrial Board, the LaFayette Rotary Club, the Chambers
County Cattlemen's Association, the Chambers County Museum
Board, the Greater Valley Area Auburn Club, the Auburn
Alumni Association, the Alabama Baptist Historical
Commission, and moderator of the East Liberty Baptist
Association; and
WHEREAS, Judge Milford resides in LaFayette, Alabama,
with his wife Sharron, where he is an active member of the
First Baptist Church of LaFayette; together, they have two
daughters, Emily and Melissa; and
WHEREAS, for his exemplary dedication to his state
and community, we wish Judge Calvin Milford continued good
health and well-being, immeasurable happiness, and
well-deserved prosperity during his retirement; he will no
doubt spend much of his time farming and nurturing his
livestock, which have long been two of his greatest
passions; we know full well that Judge Milford's service has
not ended at retirement, but rather, he will continue
serving his fellow Alabamians for many days to come; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That it is an honor to commend
the Honorable Judge Myron Calvin Milford, Jr. in recognition
of his outstanding personal and professional achievements
and dedicated service to the State of Alabama; this
resolution is offered to him in the highest tribute and
deepest appreciation, along with sincere best wishes as he
embarks upon his well-deserved retirement.
