WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow and deep regret that we record the passing of Graham Lamar Champion of Pike Road, Alabama, on February 7, 2025, at the age of 72; and WHEREAS, Graham Champion was the owner of Public Strategies, LLC, a lobbying firm where he represented clients across the nation; and WHEREAS, he was held in high respect by past and present members of the Alabama Legislature for his friendliness, honesty, knowledge, and willingness to listen to all sides of issues with which he was involved, and whenever possible, he was willing to compromise to reach an agreement; and WHEREAS, Graham Champion's service to his clients and to members of the Alabama Legislature is well known and respected: his dedication and commitment to civic service is equally well known and held in equally high respect; and WHEREAS, Graham Champion was a devoted member of the Montgomery Rotary Club where he served as president; additionally, he served the Rotary Club as assistant district governor and district membership chair; and WHEREAS, he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for his commitment and hard work to ensure that Tuskegee 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HR125 INTRODUCED Page 2 for his commitment and hard work to ensure that Tuskegee University was honored by the Rotary Foundation for work in developing the polio vaccine; and WHEREAS, Graham Champion earned the rank of Eagle Scout in August 1966; he maintained a lifelong devotion to scouting, serving as president of the Tukabatchee Area Council since 2022 and standing as a longtime member of the Council Executive Board; and WHEREAS, he was recognized as the 2023 Outstanding Eagle Scout by the National Eagle Scout Association for his service to scouting; and WHEREAS, above all else, the most important thing in Graham Champion's life was his family; he is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; sons, Matthew Champion (Katie) and Lee Walden; grandchildren, Landon Champion, Madison Champion, and Nate Walden; and sister, Celie Edwards; and WHEREAS, in addition to his family, Graham Champion leaves behind scores of people from all walks of life who called him not just a friend, but a very good friend; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That while we mourn the death of Graham Champion, we celebrate his life and recognize his contributions to the good people of the Great State of Alabama, and we offer this resolution along with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by many. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53
