WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, highest commendations are conveyed to Alabama native son, James Bradberry IV, for his many professional achievements during his professional football career; and WHEREAS, James Bradberry was a two-sport athlete at Pleasant Grove High School in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, playing varsity football and basketball; a three-year varsity letterman for the Spartans football team, James played cornerback and safety positions, earning all-metro and first team all-state honors; he was also team captain and was inducted into the National Honor Society; and WHEREAS, James Bradberry first attended Arkansas State University, where he was assigned as a defensive back in his freshman season in 2011, during which he redshirted; he transferred to Samford University and joined the Bulldogs for the 2012 season, playing as a starting cornerback for all 11 games; his debut season totals included 32 tackles, including 22 solo stops and two interceptions, a performance that named him to the 2012 Southern Conference All-Freshmen team; he continued to standout during his college career, gaining the attention of the Carolina Panthers who selected him in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft; and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HR205 INTRODUCED Page 2 him in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft; and WHEREAS, the Panthers signed him to a four-year contract; during training camp in 2016, he competed for the job of starting cornerback and won that job alongside veteran, Bené Benwikere; he finished his rookie season with 59 combined tackles, 10 pass deflections, and two interceptions in 13 games and 13 starts; he graded out as the top ranked rookie cornerback and the Panthers' top defensive back; the next year, he started in his first career playoff game and recorded eight combined tackles; he continued in his starting role for the next two seasons with the Panthers; and WHEREAS, James Bradberry signed a three-year contract with the New York Giants in 2020 and was named the number one starting cornerback, paired with Corey Ballentine; at the end of his first season with the Giants, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection and was invited to play in the 2021 Pro Bowl, and he was ranked 74th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2021; he also finished the 2020 season with 54 combined tackles, 18 passes defended, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 15 games and 15 starts; his next season, he started in all 17 games and finished with 47 combined tackles, 17 passes defended, a career-high four interceptions, and two fumble recoveries; he was released from the Giants in May 2022 and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles; and WHEREAS, Bradberry made his debut with the Eagles in their season opener, during which he returned an interception thrown by Jared Goff to tight end T.J. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 HR205 INTRODUCED Page 3 interception thrown by Jared Goff to tight end T.J. Hockenson 27 yards for his first touchdown of his career; he started in all 17 games that season and finished with 44 combined tackles, 17 passes defended, three interceptions, and one touchdown; the Eagles finished the 2022 NFL season with a 14-3 record to clinch a first-round bye; the team advanced through the playoffs to Super Bowl LVII, which he started, recording five combined tackles; the Eagles signed him to a three-year contract extension; in the 2023 season, he made 16 starts, 54 total tackles, one interception, 13 passes defended, and one forced fumble; he suffered a leg injury before the 2024 season and was placed on injured reserve; he was able to become a Super Bowl Champion when the Eagles defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX; and WHEREAS, James Bradberry returned home to Pleasant Grove High School for a ceremony where his Spartan jersey number 10 was retired on April 5, 2024; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That James Bradberry IV is highly commended and congratulated for his many career successes as an NFL athlete and this resolution is offered to him in highest tribute with best wishes for continued prosperity and success. 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 71 72 73 74 75 76 77 78
