SYNOPSIS:
This bill would authorize certain municipalities
to enter into memorandums of understanding with
sheriffs regarding traffic enforcement and provide for
additional fees in certain circumstances in
municipalities with a valid memorandum of
understanding.
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to counties and municipalities; to authorize
certain municipalities to enter into memorandums of
understanding with sheriffs regarding traffic enforcement.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) The governing body of any Class 1, 2, or
3 municipality may enter into a memorandum of understanding
with the sheriff of any county containing any portion of the
municipality concerning traffic enforcement.
(b) In any municipality with a valid memorandum of
understanding authorized by subsection (a), the governing body
of the municipality may include a provision in the memorandum
providing for additional fees for traffic violations in the

providing for additional fees for traffic violations in the
municipality and the distribution of the additional fees to
the office of the sheriff for law enforcement purposes in the
county.
Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
2025.
