WHEREAS, on the eve of the conclusion of Judge Johnny Hardwick's long and storied career of public service to the State of Alabama as Presiding Montgomery County Circuit Judge, we find it necessary and proper to recount his many accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Judge Hardwick was appointed by Governor Don Siegelman to the Circuit Court for Montgomery County on June 27, 2001; in 2002, he was elected to a six-year term, and in 2008, 2014, and 2020 he was resoundingly re-elected; he has served on the Circuit Court for 24 years and currently serves as Presiding Circuit Judge of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit; and WHEREAS, Judge Hardwick has over 40 years of legal and judicial experience; he spent nearly 20 years in private practice where he represented people and businesses in a broad variety of cases; he has also served as an Assistant United States Attorney, Legal Services Housing Specialist, and a Special Deputy Attorney General for the State of Alabama; and WHEREAS, as an attorney, Judge Hardwick successfully represented many victims, businesses, and organizations; he 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 SJR32 Enrolled Page 2 represented many victims, businesses, and organizations; he also effectively litigated capital murder cases and serious felony matters; and WHEREAS, throughout his career, Judge Johnny Hardwick has earned respect for his outstanding capability, integrity, and tireless dedication; while serving as District Judge, he has presided over complex litigation, including legislative re-apportionment cases, class actions, medical malpractice, products liability, business dissolution, and capital murder cases; and WHEREAS, Judge Hardwick also served as President of the Alabama Association of Circuit Court Judges, which is comprised of 148 judges who sit on the bench within 41 circuits of jurisdiction; he previously served as the president-elect and secretary of the association and chaired a number of different committees; and WHEREAS, dedicated to service in the greater Montgomery County Community, Judge Hardwick's numerous involvements include service as former Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Mount Gillard Baptist Church; President of the Capital City Bar Association; and Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Conference; he has also maintained membership in many organizations, such as the Montgomery Chapter of the NAACP; the Alpha Psi Omega Dramatics Fraternity; and the Alabama Lawyers Association (NBA Region 11 Affiliate); and WHERES, Judge Hardwick is also a life member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, and a life member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 SJR32 Enrolled Page 3 of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and WHEREAS, although Judge Hardwick is retiring from the court, this body knows well that his dedication to public service will not end; rather, the commendations within this resolution are given with the knowledge that he will continue serving his fellow Alabamians and fellow humans for many days to come; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the Honorable Johnny Hardwick, Montgomery County District Judge, is highly honored and commended for his service to the State of Alabama, and this resolution is offered to him in deepest admiration and appreciation, along with sincere best wishes for the future. 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 SJR32 Enrolled Page 4 for the future. ________________________________________________ President and Presiding Officer of the Senate ________________________________________________ Speaker of the House of Representatives SJR32 Senate 04-Mar-25 I hereby certify that the within Act originated in and passed the Senate.
