Petty 6 7 For An Act To Be Entitled 8 AN ACT TO REQUIRE SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE CERTAIN 9 INFORMATION ON TYPE 1 AND TYPE 2 DIABETES WHEN OTHER 10 HEALTH INFORMATION IS PROVIDED; AND FOR OTHER 11 PURPOSES. 12 13 14 Subtitle 15 TO REQUIRE SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE CERTAIN 16 INFORMATION ON TYPE 1 AND TYPE 2 17 DIABETES WHEN OTHER HEALTH INFORMATION 18 IS PROVIDED. 19 20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 21 22 SECTION 1. Arkansas Code § 6 -18-711, concerning administration of 23 medication for diabetes in schools, is amended to add an additional 24 subsection to read as follows: 25 (d)(1) If a school district provides information on immunizations, 26 infectious diseases, medications, or other school health issues to parents 27 and guardians of students in kindergarten through grade twelve (K -12), the 28 following information about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes shall be included: 29 (A) A description of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; 30 (B) A description of the risk factors and warning signs 31 associated with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes; 32 (C) A recommendation to the parent or guardian of a 33 student displaying warning signs associated with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes 34 that the parent or guardian consult with the student's primary care provider 35 to determine if immediate screening for Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is 36 HB1580 2 02/25/2025 10:47:53 AM JMB218 appropriate; 1 (D) A description of the screening processes for both Type 2 1 and Type 2 diabetes and of the significance of the stages of Type 1 3 diabetes; and 4 (E) A recommendation that, following a Type 1 or Type 2 5 diabetes diagnosis, the parent or guardian consult with the student's primary 6 care provider to develop an appropriate treatment plan. 7 (2) The Department of Education, in cooperation with the 8 Department of Health, shall develop and make available the information about 9 Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to school districts and on the website of each 10 department. 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36
