NATIONAL MARRIAGE WEEK. 15

 WHEREAS, marriage is the foundational relationship for all of society, 17 
and good marriages are the bedrock of strong societies, for they are also the 18 
foundation of strong families; and 19 
 20 
 WHEREAS, based on a wealth of academic research, married people tend to 21 
have healthier lifestyles, longer life expectancies, more satisfying sexual 22 
relationships, and more wealth and economic assets; and 23 
 24 
 WHEREAS, based on a wealth of academic research, healthy marriages 25 
decrease crime, domestic violence, substance abuse, poverty, juvenile 26 
delinquency, and suicide risk; and 27 
 28 
 WHEREAS, the effects of a healthy marriage on children are extremely 29 
pronounced, since children who grow up with both a mother and father who are 30 
married are much more likely to graduate from high school, obtain a college 31 
degree, have higher earnings in adulthood, and do better academically and 32 
emotionally; and 33 
 34 
 WHEREAS, healthy marriages save taxpayers throughout the nation 35 
hundreds of millions of dollars annually by reducing many households' need 36    	HR1006

for government assistance; and 1

 WHEREAS, marriage breakdown and divorce take a toll on the emotional, 3 
physical, and financial well -being of not only the family nucleus but also 4 
extended family members and all of society as well, but strong marriages act 5 
as a force multiplier of community building across the state; and 6 
 7 
 WHEREAS, the State of Arkansas is committed to ensuring that Arkansas 8 
continues to be a leader in developing innovative strategies to strengthen 9 
and support families and a positive future for the state's citizens; and 10 
 11 
 WHEREAS, the State of Arkansas commends and encourages a sustained 12 
effort by residents, faith communities, businesses, organizations, and 13 
community leaders to strengthen marriages in a variety of ways, including 14 
healthy marriage and relationship education programs, conferences, 15 
celebrations, and public policies that support marriage, 16 
 17 
NOW THEREFORE,  18 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL 19 
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 20 
 21 
 THAT the House of Representatives acknowledge the institution of 22 
marriage as a healthy and stabilizing force for good in society and recognize 23 
February 7-14, 2025, as National Marriage Week. 24
