HIGH SCHOOL LADY EAGLES BASKETBALL TEAM 16
AS THE 2025 CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONS. 17

WHEREAS, the West Side Greers Ferry Lady Eagles basketball team won the 19
2025 Class 1A state championship held on March 15, 2025, at Bank OZK Arena in 20
Hot Springs; and 21

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles won the championship by defeating the Earle 23
Lady Bulldogs by a score of sixty -three to forty-nine (63-49); and 24
25
WHEREAS, this was the first Class 1A state basketball championship win 26
in thirty (30) years for the Lady Eagles; and 27
28
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles finished the season with a record of forty -one 29
wins and three losses (41 -3), ending the season with a twenty -game winning 30
streak and a perfect record in Class 1A competition as their only losses were 31
to Class 4A, Class 5A, and Class 6A teams; and 32

WHEREAS, Lady Eagles team members are seniors Addie Overturff and Mandy 34
Smith, juniors Kately Cornett, Ashlyn Cossey, and Lilly Stevens, sophomores 35
Shyenne Carlton, Mia Duncan, Lainee Gentry, Whitley Goodson, Ava Mason, Eden 36 HR1112

WHEREAS, team member Ashlyn Cossey was named Most Valuable Player of 5
the Class 1A state championship; and 6

WHEREAS, team members Ashlyn Cossey, Kately Cornett, Lainee Gentry, 8
Whitney Goodson, Eden Murphree, and Addie Overturff earned All -Conference 9
Honors; and 10

WHEREAS, team members Ashlyn Cossey, Kately Cornett, Lainee Gentry, and 12
Addie Overturff earned All -State Honors; and 13

WHEREAS, team members Ashlyn Cossey, Kately Cornett, and Addie 15
Overturff were named to the All -State Tournament Team; and 16

WHEREAS, team members Ashlyn Cossey, Kately Cornett, and Lainee Gentry 18
were among the top five (5) Class 1A players named by the Arkansas Basketball 19
Coaches Association; and 20

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles were led by Head Coach Keith Cornett and 22
Assistant Coaches Cary Cossey, Josh Ballard, and Keith Brown; and 23

WHEREAS, Coach Keith Cornett was named Class 1A Coach of the Year by 25
the Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association; and 26

WHEREAS, Coach Keith Cornett said of the season and the win, "I love 28
these girls. They're awesome"; and 29

WHEREAS, Assistant Coach Cary Cossey said of the season and the win, 31
"We've talked about it, coached the girls in the summer, watched it on TV 32
hoping that one day this could be us. It's a surreal moment to actually do 33
it", 34

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY -FIFTH GENERAL 1
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS: 2

THAT the House of Representatives recognize the West Side Greers Ferry 4
Lady Eagles basketball team as the 2025 Class 1A state champions. 5

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be 7
presented to Coach Keith Cornett by the Chief Clerk of the House of 8
Representatives. 9
