Overview 
Stipulates that any document issued by an Arizona state agency, department, board or 
commission must include an individual's sex as either male or female. 
History 
Title 1 of the Arizona Revised Statutes includes the General Provisions of state law. Chapter 5 
outlines the eligibility requirements for federal, state and local public benefits.  Specifically, an 
applicant must submit at least one document to the entity that administers the public benefit 
program to demonstrate lawful presence in the United States.  Permissible documents include, in 
part, the following: 1) an Arizona driver license issued after 1996 or an Arizona nonoperating 
identification license; 2) a birth certificate issued by any state, territory or U.S. possession; 3) a 
U.S. certificate of birth abroad; 4) a U.S. passport; a foreign passport with a U.S. visa; 5) a U.S. 
certificate of naturalization; 6) a Tribal certificate of Indian blood; and 7) a Tribal or bureau of 
Indian Affairs affidavit of birth (A.R.S. §§ 1-501 and 502). 
Provisions 
1. Requires any document, that is required by law to indicate an individual's sex, issued by an 
Arizona state agency, department, board or commission to only include an individual's sex as 
either male or female. (Sec. 1)
