HB 2383: school district tax levy; reduction
Sponsor: Representative Kaiser, LD 15
Committee on Ways & Means
Overview
Requires the school district tax levy be used to reduce the Bond Building Fund balance, provided
that the fund is both balanced and has no outstanding indebtedness.
History
Current statute states that the board of supervisors of each county shall levy school district taxes
on property within the school district. The money from school district taxes levied in a particular
school district shall be added to the school fund of that school district (A.R.S. § 15-992).
The bond building fund is comprised of proceeds from the sale of bonds, which may be drawn for
the purposes that other school money is drawn. Currently, if the bond building fund is balanced
and has no outstanding indebtedness, the remaining balance must be used to reduce school
district tax (A.R.S. § 15-1024).
Provisions
1. States that if the Bond Building Fund is balanced and has no outstanding bonded
indebtedness, the school district tax levy must be used to reduce the Bond Building Fund
Balance. (Sec. 1)
2. Makes technical and conforming changes. (Sec. 1)
