Overview
Instructs the Secretary of State (SOS), as session law, to continue operating and maintain full
functionality and availability of the secure internet portal and related systems for online signature
collection.
History
Current statute requires the SOS to provide a system for qualified electors to sign a nomination
petition for candidates for statewide, legislative, federal, city, town and county offices and the
office of precinct committeeman. The system allows for only those qualified electors who are
eligible to sign a petition for a particular candidate to sign the petition. The system additionally
must provide a method for the qualified elector's identity to be properly verified and provide for
the SOS to transmit those filings to the officer in charge of elections for the appropriate office
(A.R.S. §§ 16-316, 16-317, 16-318).
Provisions
1. Directs the SOS to continue operating and maintain full functionality and availability of the
secure internet portal and related systems, as applicable, for prescribed candidates. (Sec. 1)
2. Establishes that the SOS may allow, for the purposes of updating the online signature
collection portal or system, the temporary closing, removing and limiting of access to the
system or portal. (Sec. 1)
3. Requires the SOS to provide an estimate to the candidates of how long the signature
collection portal or system will be unavailable before limiting access for updates. (Sec. 1)
