Overview 
Repeals statute that states current or former members of the United States (U.S.) armed forces 
who meet eligibility criteria are ineligible for a tuition waiver scholarship (TWS) if the person is 
convicted of a felony.   
History 
Statute currently states that an individual who meets the below eligibility requirements are 
ineligible for a TWS if that person is convicted of a felony:  
1) A person who is a member or former member of the U.S. armed forces; 
2) A person who received a purple heart citation and whose disability rating determined by 
the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA) is 50 percent or more; and 
3) Was a resident of Arizona or was stationed in Arizona at the time of the injury that resulted 
in the purple heart citation.   
Provisions 
1. States an otherwise qualified member, or former member, of the United States armed forces 
is ineligible for a tuition waiver scholarship if convicted of a class 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 felony. (Sec. 
1)
