FACT SHEET FOR S.B. 1192 
 
appropriation; Interstate 10; vehicle lanes 
Purpose 
Appropriates $59,600,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2022 to the 
Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to design and construct an additional eastbound 
and westbound vehicle lane on Interstate 10 (I-10) between State Route 85 (SR-85) and Citrus 
Road. 
Background 
ADOT is responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation systems 
and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S. § 28-332). ADOT may 
contract and do all things necessary to secure the full benefits available to Arizona for 
transportation purposes under federal law. ADOT may cooperate with: 1) federal, state and local 
government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and 4) private 
individuals. ADOT may exchange federal monies with local governments in order to receive local 
monies and may include additional federal monies in the exchange to offset the matching costs 
required of local governments (A.R.S. § 28-334). 
The distance between SR-85 and Citrus Road on I-10 is approximately 27.6 miles (ADOT 
Maps).  
S.B. 1192 appropriates $59,600,000 from the state GF in FY 2022 to ADOT. 
Provisions 
1. Appropriates $59,600,000 from the state GF in FY 2022 to ADOT to design and construct one 
additional eastbound and westbound vehicle lane on I-10 between SR-85 and Citrus Road. 
2. Declare's the Legislature's intent that the City of Buckeye contribute $3,000,000 and Maricopa 
the Association of Governments collect and contribute at least $10,000,000 from sources other 
than the state to the project. 
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
