SB 1640: nursing assistants; minimum age

Overview 
Stipulates that a certified or licensed nursing assistant must be at least 16 years old.  
History 
A person wishing to practice as a licensed nursing assistant must file a verified application on a 
form prescribed by the Arizona State Board of Nursing (Board) accompanied by the applicable 
fee. Additionally, the applicant must provide a verified statement indicating whether the applicant 
has been convicted of a felony and must indicate additional information if they have a prior 
conviction. The applicant must also submit proof to the Board that the applicant has: 1) 
satisfactorily completed all the basic curriculum of a program approved by the Board; 2) received 
a valid certificate from a Board-approved training program; and 3) satisfactorily completed a 
competency examination of licensed nursing assistants as outlined in statue. 
A person who wishes to practice as a certified nursing assistant must file a form prescribed by 
the Board and authorized by applicable law. The applicant must provide proof to the Board that 
they have: 1) satisfactorily completed the basic curriculum of a Board-approved program; 2) 
received a valid certificate from a Board-approved training program; and 3) satisfactorily 
completed a competency examination of certified nursing assistants as described in statute 
(A.R.S. §§ 32-1645 and 32-1674). 
Provisions 
1. States that a person who wishes to practice as a certified or licensed nursing assistant must 
be at least 16 years old. (Sec. 1)
