Overview 
Includes other on-track equipment into railroad safety statutes mentioning a railroad train. 
History 
When a person driving a vehicle approaches a railroad grade crossing, the driver of the vehicle 
must stop within 50 feet but not less than 15 feet from the nearest rail of the railroad and may not 
proceed if any of the following applies: 
1) A clearly visible electric or mechanical signal device gives warning of the immediate 
approach of a railroad train; 
2) A crossing gate is lowered or a human flagman gives or continues to give a signal of the 
approach or passage of a railroad train; 
3) A railroad train approaching within approximately 1,500 feet of the highway crossing emits 
a signal audible from such a distance and the railroad train is an immediate hazard by 
reason of its speed or proximity to the crossing; 
4) An approaching railroad train is plainly visible and is in hazardous proximity to the 
crossing; or 
5) Any other condition exists that makes it unsafe to proceed through the crossing (A.R.S. ยง 
28-851). 
Provisions 
1. Broadens railroad safety law relating to railroad crossings and railroad grade crossings to 
include other on-track equipment. (Sec. 1, 2, 3)
