HCR 2004 Initials FK Page 1 Government ARIZONA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Fifty-sixth Legislature First Regular Session HCR2004: legislators; minimum age of eighteen Sponsor: Representative Gress, LD 4 Committee on Government Overview Amends the Arizona Constitution by modifying the qualifications of a member of the Arizona Legislature. History Currently, a member of the legislature has the following qualifications: 1) He is a citizen of the United States at the time of his election; 2) He is 25 years of age; and 3) He has been a resident of Arizona for at least three years and of the county from which he is elected for at least one year before his election (Article IV, Part 2, Section 2, Constitution of Arizona). Provisions 1. Amends the Arizona Constitution by altering the qualifications of the members of the legislature in the following manner: a) Lowers the qualification age to 18 at the time of election; b) Requires the member to have been a resident of Arizona for at least three consecutive years at the time of election; and c) Requires the member to have been a resident of the district for one consecutive year at the time of election.
