History
The Assyrian New Year, also known as Kha b’Nissan, marked the start of Spring. The holiday is
a symbol of revival, a major theme in ancient Assyrian mythology (Assyrian Cultural Foundation).
Assyria was located in the northern part of Mesopotamia, which corresponds to most parts of
modern-day Iraq as well as parts of Iran, Kuwait, Syria, and Turkey (National Geographic).
