Assigned to GOV FOR COMMITTEE ARIZONA STATE SENATE Fifty-Sixth Legislature, First Regular Session FACT SHEET FOR S.B. 1011 municipalities; partisan elections Purpose Allows candidate elections for a city or town held on or after January 1, 2024, to indicate a candidate's political party registration on the ballot. Background A city or town may not hold an election in which there is an indication of the source of the candidacy or the candidate's political party on the ballot (A.R.S. § 9-821.01). The names of the candidates on a partisan ballot must be printed in the following order: 1) presidential electors; 2) United States senator; 3) Representatives in Congress; 4) statewide offices; and 5) county and precinct offices (A.R.S. § 16-502). There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation. Provisions 1. Allows candidate elections for a city or town held on or after January 1, 2024, to indicate a candidate's political party registration on the ballot. 2. Adds municipal offices for municipalities holding partisan elections to the order of candidate races on a ballot. 3. Makes technical changes. 4. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
