Whereas, Arizona's beef-producing farmers, ranchers and families are on the front line of providing food security for the citizens of this state by producing enough beef locally to feed all of Arizona's citizens; and Whereas, in the American diet, beef is the number one source for protein, vitamin B12 and zinc and is third in a food source for iron. Additionally, more than 100 medicines used by humans come from beef cattle; and Whereas, beef is produced in all 15 counties in Arizona; and Whereas, Arizona's beef producers produce 25% more beef with 10% less resources than they did just 30 years ago, providing grazing management to help maintain healthy forests and ecosystems; and Whereas, studies of the life cycle of beef demonstrates a 22% reduction in water, air and greenhouse gas emissions while reducing water and energy use by 5% on 4% less land; and Whereas, beef producers and beef production have come under attack through overburdensome regulation, propaganda and misinformation that serve to jeopardize the food security of the United States and the overall health of the economy; and Whereas, the beef animal is uniquely positioned in the food production system where it is one of the few natural processes in which cows upscale low quality forage and low protein fiber in the form of grass and hay into a nutrient-dense and high-protein food product; and Whereas, Arizona's multigenerational ranching families are a rich historical piece of this state's western culture and have been part of Arizona's fabric since statehood. Therefore Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring: That the Members of the Legislature recognize, encourage and continue to support Arizona's beef-producing farmers, ranchers and families.
