Overview
Instructs the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to develop a webpage for parent
training programs and resources regarding crimes against children. Directs public schools to
provide, upon parent request, information about the training programs and resources.
History
School district governing boards, in consultation with parents, teachers and administrators,
are required to adopt a policy that promotes parental involvement. Statute details the
components that must be included in the policy and allows the policy to include prescribed
components, such as: 1) efforts to encourage parenting skills development; 2) efforts to
encourage access to community and support services; and 3) identification of opportunities
for parents to participate in classroom instruction (A.R.S. § 15-102).
Provisions
1. Requires ADE to develop and maintain a webpage for parent training programs and
resources that includes:
a) at least one free training program that includes instruction on child sex trafficking
and internet crimes against children; and
b) educational materials and resources related to preventing child sex trafficking and
internet crimes against children. (Sec. 1)
2. Allows ADE to use a free training program provided by the Arizona Department of
Homeland Security, if available. (Sec. 1)
3. Instructs each school, upon request of a parent or guardian of a student at the school, to
provide the parent or guardian information about the training program and available
resources on the ADE webpage. (Sec. 1)
4. Specifies the information about the training program and available resources provided to
the parent or guardian must include:
a) a statement that, to enhance child safety awareness, the parent or guardian is
strongly encouraged to complete the training program at least annually; and
b) a description of the free training program, including information about how to access
the training program. (Sec. 1)
5. Allows the information regarding the training program and available resources to be
provided to each parent or guardian of a student at the school at the beginning of each
school year or, if applicable, when the student transfers. (Sec. 1)
6. Defines school as a school district or charter school that provides instruction in
kindergarten or any of the 1st-8th grades. (Sec. 1)
