 BILL NUMBER: AB 100INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Price JANUARY 7, 2009 An act relating to pupils. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 100, as introduced, Price. Pupils: athletics: support services. Existing law requires the governing board of any educational institution to provide for each member of an athletic team insurance protection for medical and hospital expenses. Existing law authorizes the governing board of any school district to make available ambulance service for athletic events. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would establish a statewide pilot program to provide comprehensive injury prevention and treatment services, medical care, athletic training, health care awareness, mentoring, and academic support to high school pupil athletes in underserved communities. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would establish a statewide pilot program to provide comprehensive injury prevention and treatment services, medical care, athletic training, health care awareness, mentoring, and academic support to high school pupil athletes in underserved communities.
