Existing law establishes the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and charges it with various responsibilities, including providing specified courses of training for peace officers, as specified. This bill would require the commission to permit a volunteer to participate in any training course which the commission provides if the volunteer has the approval of the chief of police or the sheriff for whom the volunteer intends to perform services in an emergency or mutual aid situation. Section 13510.8 is added to the Penal Code, to read: 13510.8.
