 BILL NUMBER: AB 788INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Swanson FEBRUARY 26, 2009 An act relating to community colleges. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 788, as introduced, Swanson. California Community Colleges: career technical education. Existing law establishes the California Community Colleges, administered by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, as a segment of public postsecondary education in the state. Existing law establishes community college districts, administered by a governing board, throughout the state and authorizes these districts to provide instruction to students at the community college campuses maintained by the districts. Existing law requires the board of governors to assist economic and workforce regional development centers and consortia, including middle and junior high schools or high schools and regional occupational centers and programs, to improve linkages and career technical education pathways between high schools and community colleges for the benefit of pupils and students in both education systems. This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to allocate funds received from the federal government to support the expansion of career technical education programs at the California Community Colleges. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to allocate funds received from the federal government to support the expansion of career technical education programs at the California Community Colleges.
