 BILL NUMBER: ABX7 8INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Members Feuer and Huffman OCTOBER 29, 2009 An act to add Section 10608 to the Water Code, relating to water conservation. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 8, as introduced, Feuer. Water conservation. Existing law requires the Department of Water Resources to convene an independent technical panel to provide information to the department and the Legislature on new demand management measures, technologies, and approaches. "Demand management measures" means those water conservation measures, programs, and incentives that prevent the waste of water and promote the reasonable and efficient use and reuse of available supplies. This bill would require the state to strive to achieve a 20% reduction in urban per capita water use in California by December 31, 2020. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 10608 is added to the Water Code, to read: 10608. The state shall strive to achieve a 20 percent reduction in per capita water use in the state by December 31, 2020.
