Equal Pay for Women Day. This measure would proclaim April 20, 2010, as Equal Pay for Women Day in California. Fiscal committee: no. WHEREAS, Women now make up 50% of the American workforce but, on average, they earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men; and WHEREAS, Women must work 15 months and 20 days, until April 20, to earn as much as men did in the 12 months preceding December 31; and WHEREAS, Women working one year out of college already earn less than male colleagues in the same field with the same degree; and WHEREAS, Women over the age of 66 receive lower Social Security and pension benefits than men and are twice as likely as men to be poor; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That April 20, 2010, is declared Equal Pay for Women Day; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
