BILL NUMBER: SB 1196INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Negrete McLeod FEBRUARY 18, 2010 An act relating to developmental services. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 1196, as introduced, Negrete McLeod. State developmental centers. Existing law gives the State Department of Developmental Services jurisdiction over specified state hospitals, including Fairview State Hospital and Lanterman State Hospital, to be used as developmental centers for the provision of services to people with developmental disabilities. Existing law specifies the procedure that the department is required to use in the closure of any of these developmental centers. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would require the State Department of Developmental Services, by December 31, 2010, to close the Fairview Developmental Center, the Lanterman Developmental Center, or both, and to move consumers currently housed in the closed facility or facilities either into the remaining facility or into community placements appropriate for serving their needs. The bill would further provide that the legislation would require that plans be made for the property to benefit community-based services for persons with developmental disabilities as well as the state General Fund. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1.
